FACILITIES provided FOR ELIGIBLE SC/ST/OBC(NC) by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences for M.A. Programmes


 
1. Pre-Admission Orientation

The Pre-Admission Orientation is organised by the Social Protection Office of TISS for all SC/ST/OBC(NC)/PWD/Minority candidates who have qualified to appear for the National Entrance Test of the Institute. This year the orientation programme is scheduled on 22-23 December 2017 for 2 days. The Pre-Admission Orientation will be held at all 4 campuses- Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati.

The objective of the Orientation programme is to introduce the candidates to the entire process of the entrance test, and orient them to various aspects of TISS-NET, Pre-Interview Test / Group Discussion and personal interview. An important aspect of the orientation is to inform about the common mistakes candidates make in the admission test and how to overcome those. The candidates are also told about the facilities available for the eligible candidates at TISS. Candidates are encouraged to clarify their doubts and seek additional information from the resource persons who would lead the orientation programme. The overall purpose is to build confidence about taking the TISS admission test and study at TISS. All eligible candidates are encouraged to attend the orientation program since it does not involve cost to the person and prepares the candidates to face the admission tests confidently.

2. Post-Admission Orientation

All students admitted to various programmes are provided post-admission orientation at the beginning of the academic session (around mid – June 2018). The main focus is to orient them to the curriculum outline, information on Foundation Courses and core and optional courses and guidance in selection of optional courses. Tata Institute of Social Sciences campuses in Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad show high level of diversity with students coming from diverse social, ethic and economic backgrounds from almost all States and Union Territories. The campuses value and respect diversity and expects all students to confirm to basic values. The students from all categories are provided with information on various facilities available on the campuses.

3. Criteria for Eligible SC/ST/OBC(NC) Candidates

Unemployed candidates whose parent’s / guardian's annual income from all the sources for the Financial Year 2016-17 is less than Rs. 2.5 lakhs for SC/ST and Rs. 1 lakh for OBC - NCL (Non Creamy Layer) fulfill the criteria to apply for GOI-PMS sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for SC/OBC (NCL) and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for ST students. It is the responsibility of eligible candidates to apply in time for availing scholarships on time. The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Certificates issued before prior to 31st March 2017 will not considered. Please note that while caste certificate is issued once in a lifetime, the Non Creamy Layer certificate depends on the family income of the candidate in the previous financial year and hence the NCL certificate has to be obtained for the period after 1st April 2017.

4. Fee for Application Form for TISS National Entrance Test

Eligible SC, ST and OBC (NCL) (including SBC, NT & DNTs of Maharashtra) candidates can avail of concessional application fee of Rs.250/- each for MA Programme applied. This applied to BA Programmes too. Those applying for for integrated M..Phil. - Ph.D. and direct Ph.D. pay Rs.375/- each for admission to various programmes. For availing this concession, candidates are required to submit the valid Caste/Tribe/OBC (NCL) Certificate and Income Certificate (for FY2016-17) issued by a competent authority. The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Certificates issued before prior to 31 st March 2017 will not be considered.

5. Travel Allowance to attend TISS-NET, PIs, etc.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences reimburses travel costs as per Government of India rules to all the eligible SC/ST (non-local candidates ONLY) candidates for (i) TISS NET, (ii) Pre-Interview Test (PIT) / Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) and (iii) cost of onward travel at the time of joining the course (can join only after basic Documents are verified to be authentic). The candidates are required to post/courier their filled in application form for travel reimbursement each and every time they have traveled for any of the above mentioned purposes along with thoto copy of onward and return journey tickets, Caste/Tribe certificate and Income Certificate for preceding year (2016-17) issued by a competent authority. TISS can reimburse travel only second sleeper class (by train) or State/Govt. Transport (by road). Please travel by the shortest route since fares applicable to shortest route shall be considered reimbursement.

6. Fees, Scholarships, Loans and Student Aid Policy for Students taking admission in TISS:

Eligible SC (excluding State of Maharashtra) candidates whose family annual income is less than 2.5 lakhs have to pay the basic fees (including Hostel and Dining Hall). Thereafter they can approach for Scholarship from their respective States if they fulfil the criteria for the award of the Govt. of India Post Matric Scholarship. If any GOI – PMS amount is received by the Institute, it will be reimbursed to the respective students.

Eligible SC (from Maharashtra) candidates whose family annual income is less than 2 lakhs have to pay the basic fees (including Hostel and Dining Hall). Thereafter they can approach for Scholarship from their respective States if they fulfil the criteria for the award of the Govt. of India Post Matric Scholarship. If any GOI – PMS amount is received by the Institute, it will be reimbursed to the respective students.

**Scholarship applications for OBC(NC) eligible students will be processed by the Social Protection Office and any amount received by the Institute will be reimbursed to students.

Important Note:

(i) Please link your Saving Bank Account (any Bank/Branch) with Aadhar Card Number to the said account to make it an Adhar Enabled Account- AEA) and also link your Aadhar Card to your mobile number for availing the scholarship benefits.

After joining the programme, a copy of the Aadhar Enabled Account (AEA) Passbook, Mobile No., E-mail ID and Self attested photocopy of the Aadhaar Card shall necessary be submitted to the Social Protection Office.

IMPORTANT :
 
a). TISS offers ‘student aid’ for those with financial need. Arrangements are also made with nationalised banks to facilitate student educational loans. The Office of the Students Affairs will anchor these processes and candidates facing financial hardships are advised to avail of an educational loan to pay fees. Securing Scholarships / Loans will be the sole responsibility of the candidates and the Institute will not be responsible for ensuring the grant of release of loans by the Bank. Candidates can start repaying the loan taken after they have got a job (after getting their degree) or within one year of graduating (whichever is sooner).

b). Students who are eligible for Government of India Post-Matric Scholarships (GoI-PMS) are required to apply as per the procedures of the State and Union Governments concerned and secure, fill and submit scholarship application ON TIME.  The Institute Social Protection Office will help in submitting online the Scholarship Forms but the students would be responsible for applying and doing the necessary follow up.

c). Students are also responsible for renewing their Scholarship application as per the GoI norms. Failure to renew scholarships may result in economic hardships and problems in completing course work. Institute will not be responsible for any adverse impact on course completion due to this.
